A Texas man acquitted of murder by reason of insanity for the 2013 stabbing death of his father escaped the state mental hospital where he was committed, according to police.
Alexander Ervin, 29, hopped a nine-foot fence at North Texas State Hospital Sunday and remains on the lam, according to the Vernon Police Department.
Hospital staff reported him missing Monday morning.
Ervin is listed at between 5-feet-8 and 6-feet and about 206 pounds, bald with a mustache. He was last seen wearing a gray zip-up hoodie, black shirt, tan pants, and black shoes.
He is considered armed and dangerous.
Anyone who sees him is asked to call 911 immediately.
Ervin was accused of stabbed and killed his 58-year-old father, Ray Scott Ervin, during what defense attorneys called a psychotic episode of delusions and paranoia, according to the Austin American-Statesman. His brother testified that Ervin believed he was a trained member of the CIA on a mission and that his father was an impostor.
