An 8-year-old girl was killed in a tragic accident during a Fourth of July parade near Salt Lake City.
Macie Hill was on a float with her grade school cheerleading team, Patriot Cheer All-Stars, for the parade in Kaysville, about 20 miles north of downtown Salt Lake City, local CBS affiliate KUTV reported.
Hill apparently fell off the float and was run over by a Hummer truck that was with the team, according to local Fox affiliate KSTU.
“I heard a woman screaming at the driver, ‘Stop, stop, stop, you just ran over one of your girls!’” parade-goer Shawna Dennis told the station.
Macie was quickly taken to a nearby fire station that was along the parade route, KSTU reported. Authorities have released few details on the incident but have consistently called it an accident.
After Macie was killed, the parade was immediately stopped and canceled. The town’s fireworks show went on as planned later Monday night.
“Macie was the youngest in her family and a princess to her three older brothers and her parents,” read a GoFundMe for the Hill family. “Macie was full of life and showed joy and love to everyone.”
