A bison has gored someone at Yellowstone National Park for the second time this year, according to a release from park officials.
“Always stay more than 25 yards away from bison,” officials warned at the top of the release.
A 34-year-old Colorado man was “walking with his family on a boardwalk when a bull bison charged the group” and gored him Monday near Giant Geyser at Old Faithful, said officials.
“Family members did not leave the area, and the bull bison continued to charge and gored the male,” whose arm was injured, according to the release.
The condition of the man, who was transported to the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, was not revealed.
Though the incident is being investigated, officials seemed to blame the victim for what transpired.
“This is the second reported incident in 2022 of a visitor getting too close to the animal and the bison responding to the perceived threat by goring the individual,” read the release, which noted that the animal is “unpredictable and can run three times faster than humans.”
The first incident occurred late last month and involved a 25-year-old Ohio woman who approached a bison near a boardwalk at Black Sand Basin, which sits roughly two miles from Old Faithful. The animal gored the woman and then tossed her several feet in the air. She was transported to the same hospital as the man hurt Monday and sustained injuries including a puncture wound.
