America’s favorite Burger King employee has enough money to launch his own franchise.
Kevin Ford, who went viral on social media after being viewed as a disparaged fast-food worker, is now nearly a quarter of a million dollars richer.
By Tuesday afternoon, more than $220,000 had been raised from more than 6,000 donations within seven days in support of the 27-year Las Vegas McCarran International Airport burger chain veteran.
Ford, 54, who dedicated 27 years to the burger chain, received a gift bag, which included one movie ticket, Life Savers and a bag of Reese’s Pieces candy, a Starbucks cup and a couple of pens stuffed into a clear, plastic backpack, in exchange for “his loyalty …and never missing a day.”
Ford’s daughter Seryna started the GoFundMe page, noting how through the decades of hard work, her dad managed to provide for his family and put four daughters through college.
“It’s like a dream, a dream come true, that nobody can even think of this. It’s just overwhelming,” he said during Tuesday’s appearance on “TODAY,” which reunited him with his family. “‘Especially all of the support I’m receiving every day. It’s awesome.”
His daughter explained he stayed at his job and “continued to work here because of the amazing health insurance.”
Ford reportedly plans to put some of the crowdsourcing funds toward his grandchildren’s college fund and donate to the church.
Before the “TODAY” appearance, the GoFundMe campaign exceeded two benchmarks and reached over $170,000.
While her father shed tears on national television, Seryna explained she didn’t have high expectations, and her “original goal was $200.”
“I just want to tell everybody out there, thank you for every cent, even the thought of watching the video,” Ford said. “There’s been donations from Australia and U.K. all around the world…I just want to say thank you to everybody. It’s just a dream come true and just a whirlwind of love,” Ford said.
