An armed man was shot and killed by police Monday after he fired shots at a Texas summer camp for kids aged 4 to 14.
Police responded to the Duncanville Fieldhouse, just outside of Dallas, around 8:45 a.m. Monday after reports of shots fired, according to the Duncanville Police Department.
Officers exchanged gunfire with the suspect, who has not been publicly identified, within two minutes of the first calls, Duncanville Assistant Chief of Police Matthew Stogner said at a press conference.
The man was shot and pronounced dead at the hospital.
No one else was injured.
Police said the man entered the building through the main lobby doors with a handgun and encountered a staff member. When other camp workers heard the gunshot, they began moving the kids to a safe area and locking the doors.

The suspect then went to a classroom but found it locked and fired another round, then moved to the gymnasium where more children were.

“The shooter actually came to our door … and he said if we didn’t let him see who he wanted to see he was going to shoot the place up,” camp counselor Naomi Rodgers told NBC DFW.
Responding officers met him at the gym and took him down.
More than 250 campers and staff were at the Duncanville Fieldhouse at the time, present for the second week of summer camp.
The police officers had recently undergone active shooter training, Duncanville Mayor Barry Gordon told WFAA.
“Our officers did not hesitate,” Gordon said. “They did what they were trained to do and saved lives.”
Duncanville is about 350 miles north of Uvalde, where suspect Salvador Ramos shot and killed 19 students and two teachers barely three weeks ago while police loitered outside the school.
