A 7-year-old boy died Sunday night after he was shot in his bedroom during a drive-by shooting.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said calls were made around 10:45 p.m. after a silver car pulled up to a trailer home and someone inside the car shot multiple times at the dwelling.
The sheriff’s office said Paul Vasquez was struck in the chest and told his mother he had been hit before he became unresponsive.
He was rushed to Ben Taub Hospital in Houston where he was pronounced dead.
The boy was home with his mother and two brothers but no other injuries were reported.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said he is “outraged.”
“Outraged to learn that a 7-year-old child was killed during a drive-by shooting. I urge the community to come forward with any information related to this senseless act of gun violence,” he wrote on Twitter.
“This is the daily toll of gun violence. Gun violence in the US can’t be viewed as a solitary issue. Let’s not accept daily gun violence as our norm,” he added in a followup.
“We can and we must do more to stop gun violence.”
